About the Role

The Short Form Video Editor / Animator (Freelance) is responsible for delivering best-in-class, social-first video content for Astrum and Astrum Earth.

This role plays a key part in developing visually striking, high-retention formats across YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, helping to grow reach, strengthen brand identity, and support commercial partnerships.

Working closely with editorial and commercial teams, you will translate complex scientific ideas into compelling, visually distinctive short-form content that maintains Astrum’s cinematic tone while optimising for social performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit and produce high-quality, social-first short-form videos optimised for platform performance at every stage.

• Design and animate clear, engaging motion graphics that bring space and Earth science concepts to life.

• Create visually ambitious sequences using stock, archive footage and animation.

• Lead post-production end-to-end, including editing, sound design, graphics, animation, versioning, and delivery.

• Adapt content for multiple platforms, ensuring correct pacing, framing, and social-first approach.

• Work across multiple projects simultaneously, balancing speed and quality.

• Ensure all output meets Astrum’s editorial accuracy standards and brand expectations.

• Collaborate on branded content executions where relevant, ensuring authentic integration into science-led storytelling.

• Brainstorm, test, and pilot new ideas with a clear understanding of social-first audience behaviour and performance metrics.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience delivering high-performing social-first video for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.

• Advanced level of skill in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.

• Strong motion graphics and animation capability, including keyframe animation and compositing.

• Experience working with cinematic stock footage, science visuals, maps, data visualisations, or space imagery.

• Strong sense of pacing, hook-building, and retention strategy in short-form content.

• Understanding of platform algorithms and audience engagement drivers.

• Data-led mindset with the ability to iterate formats based on performance.

• Ability to balance creative ambition with commercial and delivery requirements.

• Highly organised and deadline-driven.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work remotely with a distributed team.

• Interest in astronomy, space exploration, and climate science.

• Experience in 3D software such as Blender or Cinema 4D is nice to have.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows for editing, animation, or visual enhancement is advantageous.
