Astrum Earth is the sister channel to YouTube channel Astrum, focused on the most extraordinary planet in the universe: our own. We dive into complex topics from geology to climate cycles, and from dinosaurs to the deep sea, exploring the science behind some of the planet’s greatest mysteries and wonders with rigorous research and intriguing answers.

About the role 

Video Editors play a crucial role in creating high-quality long-form videos that blend live-
action and animation, bringing complex Earth science topics to life for a broad audience. We are seeking experienced freelance editors to join our talent pool. If you have a passion for Earth sciences, an eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities 

• Work on video content for the Astrum Earth channel, creating high-quality long- form videos that blend live-action and animation.

• Source, select, and import suitable media elements (videos, images, audio) for video projects.

• Implement sound design and ensure proper audio integration with visual content.

• Ensure all media used is rights-cleared and complies with legal standards.

• Collaborate with the scriptwriter, researcher, voice-over artist, and production team to understand visual requirements and ensure alignment with the storytelling vision.

• Manage multiple edit projects concurrently, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines and maintain project momentum.

• Maintain organised project files and documentation to ensure easy access to assets and seamless collaboration with team members.

• Prepare animation briefs and review animation content to ensure it meets project requirements. Work closely with the animators.

• Maintain the style and quality of Astrum Earth videos.

• Maintain communication with team members and reporting on progress of the tasks.

  
  

Skills and experience 

• 3+ years of experience in video editing and accompanying showreel, with an emphasis on digital content creation and experience with YouTube

• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro & Creative Cloud

• Excellent video documentary storytelling skills

• Although not essential, a strong understanding of YouTube and other social media platforms and how to optimise content for those platforms would be beneficial

• A passion for Earth sciences with the ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience

• Experience in sound design, with the ability to integrate audio elements into video projects is essential

• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask

• Previous experience editing documentaries is considered an advantage
